Do you remember Susan Powter screaming “STOP THE INSANITY” into your TV set to drive home her point that “Fat makes you fat!!”

Be afraid… be very, very afraid of fat!!

THAT is what they wanted you to believe.

Hold up… I lost 30 lbs. years ago by eating MORE fat, not less.

But, why would anyone want us to be afraid of natural fats? And who is “they”, you ask?

The sugar industry, in bed with the diet industry. That’s who.

The diet industry in the United States is a multi billion dollar industry with a vested interest in keeping you confused.

When you remove fat from food, guess what happens?

It loses all of its FLAVOR because fat IS flavor. In the 80s and 90s during the fat free diet fad flavor was removed from food and the sugar industry stepped in to replace that flavor.

Fat is your friend. Fat makes you feel SATIATED!! If your finding yourself constantly hungry you may not be eating enough fat.

Before we dive in to why you should be eating more fat, I want to make sure you’ve heard about my FREE training that teaches you how to eat only when you’re hungry and stop when your not. This ONE tool is the sole reason I lost 7 pounds when I started my weight loss journey 30 lbs ago, and I didn’t change a thing about WHAT I was eating at that time. Check it out at liapinelli.com.

On today’s episode we are talking about FAT. I’m going to explain to you why you might feel confused about it and then I’ll clear up that conusion and explain why you should be eating more fat, not less, for weight loss + optimal health.

If you were watching TV before 1995 then you couldn't have missed the bleached blond, buzz cut Susan Powter screaming “STOP THE INSANITY” into your TV. She was intent on driving home her point that Fat makes you fat!!” 😵‍💫

I fully bought into that message.

In fact, at the impressionable age of 15 I developed a real fear of eating fat (I now know this is called Orthorexia which is defined as a medical condition in which the sufferer systematically avoids specific foods in the belief that they are harmful.)

I almost NEVER ate fat 🚫.

Here's a snapshot of what I ate everyday:

👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

Breakfast

  • Two pieces of fat free toast 🍞 with jam (because jam has no fat)

  • Coffee ☕️ with non-fat creamer (pretty much all chemicals I think)+ two scoops of sugar

Snack (because I was starving 😖a n hour later)

  • Entire bag of fat-free Quaker White Cheddar rice cakes

  • Red Vines licorice

Lunch (still starving 😖)

  • Large steamed rice 🍚 with soy sauce and chili paste for flavor from the Chinese take out spot near my high school

  • More Red Vines

Snack (because I was still starving 😖)

  • Entire loaf of Safeway's Fat Free French bread 🥖

  • Maybe some fruit 🍎...because it's fat free, of course

Dinner (still starving 😖)

  • Pasta with fat-free, homemade tomato sauce 🍝

  • Steamed vegetables 🥦

  • Snackwells cookies 🍪

Diet culture told me to be afraid… very, very afraid of fat 👻👻👻!!

THAT is what they wanted me (and you) to believe.

And it mostly worked-- except I was ALWAYS hungry, and you know what happens when you are always hungry because you're restricting?👇

But, why would anyone want us to be afraid of natural fats? And who is “they”, you ask?🤔

The sugar industry, in bed with the diet industry. That’s who. 💥💥

The diet industry in the United States is a multi billion dollar industry with a vested interest 💰in keeping you confused.

When you remove fat from food, guess what happens?

It loses all of its FLAVOR because fat IS flavor 🥓🥑🧈.

In the 80s and 90s during the fat free diet fad, flavor was removed from food and the sugar industry stepped in 😈to replace that flavor... with sugar (duh).

I challenge you the next time you’re at the grocery store to look at the label of a “low fat” food product and notice where sugar falls in the ingredient list. I’d be willing to bet it’s pretty close to the top.😲

Here is my promise to you:

  1. Fat alone does not make you fat.

  2. It is what you COMBINE fat with that results in either weight loss or weight gain.🔥🔥🔥

Understanding this 👆is the secret to sustainable, pleasurable weight loss.

Fat is your friend👯‍♀️!! Fat makes you feel satiated! This is why when you don’t have enough of it you feel perpetually hungry.

Eating enough fat goes hand in hand with recalibrating your hunger signals– fat is the trigger for leptin to kick in.

But if you don’t understand the science of weight loss, and/or you are eating for emotional reasons (again, by free training helps with this) then you are likely stuck on a hamster wheel, not getting the results you want despite massive effort on your part, or worse, your gaining weight instead of losing it.

Beyond weight loss, we need fat for many reasons, such as cellular repair and cognitive functioning, and women especially are at risk of not eating enough fat because we’ve been direct targets of low fat marketing messages for decades (notice how the packaging of low fat yogurts are often pastels… 🙄).

If you're finding yourself constantly hungry or overeating then you may not be eating enough fat– but be sure you’re eating it in the right combinations for your one unique body.

Figuring out the right foods for your body is one of the most important things we do in my 90 Days to food freedom program.

Because there is no ONE way for everyone. I have one client who lost over 70 lbs. With me who ate pb every day, but others who will gain or stall WL efforts if they eat PB daily.

It’s all about combining the science with the brain-based tools I teach to get you the sustainable, lasting results you want.

If you want to learn more, head to liapinelli.com.

I hope I’ve given you enough reasons to go eat that avocado with salt + lime, or to slather your broccoli with cheese and enjoy it!! Because if you don’t enjoy the way you eat, you won’t sustain it.

That’s why I always tell my clients that we aren’t going to do anything for weight loss that we aren’t willing to do for the rest of our lives… and that means you have to really, truly enjoy it. Pleasure is what drives momentum– the momentum to keep going– not deprivation.

There you have it! Head to liapinelli.com and in less than 20 minutes you will have the first tool you need to start a totally different weight loss journey than ever before– one that is driven by pleasure, not pain!
