When you embark on your weight loss journey, sometimes you’ll encounter obstacles. You won’t feel great every time you’ll need to get up for that 6 am run. You won’t feel like eating that salad after a hard day at work.

And you should sometimes allow yourself some slack. But, you can’t do it every time. Think about how you got addicted to those cookies, or those large glasses of wine.

You’re working towards getting rid of those habits, or at least changing your relationship with them.

It’s OK to skip that exercise once in a while, but be mindful when that becomes a recurring theme. Do it long enough, and you’ll find yourself where you started off. And it will be harder next time, and harder, and harder.

The most dangerous outcome is that you will start losing trust in yourself. Seeing yourself slip up time after time will make you think all sorts of bad things about your personality.

It’s a slippery slope, and easy to lose yourself in it. I don’t want that for you, you don’t want that for you.

And that is why in today’s episode I talk all about self-care vs. self-soothing, specifically:

  • Why self-care is the best mindset you can adopt when losing weight.

  • How self-soothing sabotages your fitness goals.

  • The differences between these two approaches.

  • How to achieve balance between being strict to yourself, and cutting yourself some slack.

During your weight loss journey, you’ll often need to toe the line between self-discipline and self-forgiveness. The extremes are the ones that will bring you misery.

Too much self-discipline, and you’ll start hating the process. Too much slack, and you’ll lose confidence that you can achieve your goals.

After you listen to this episode, you’ll learn to tell the difference between these approaches and how to implement them.
